Liz Walker, Keynote Speaker, ELP Luncheon, October 23, 2008

The program draws upon UMass Boston and other leading private and public sector institutions for its faculty and speakers.

Each year of the program we are fortunate to have Marshall Carter, Deputy Chairman of the NYSE Euronext Board speak to the ELP fellows about his path to leadership. Mr. Carter has served on the NYSE Group board since November 2003 and has been chairman of that board since April 2005. Mr. Carter is the former chairman and chief executive officer of the State Street Bank and Trust Company, and of its holding company, State Street Corporation (United States), where he served from 1992 until his retirement in 2001.

Also featured each year is a session with Thomas M. Menino, Mayor of Boston. At this session, fellows present the team project findings to the Mayor.  The projects are based on client needs that address Greater Boston issues and Mayor Menino is an avid audience member as well as a speaker.

We are also pleased to hear from top executives and civic leaders such as Steven Ainsley, publisher of the Boston Globe; Reverend Ray Hammond of the Ten Point Coalition; Hubie Jones, founder of the Boston Children’s Choir; Gloria Larson, President of Bentley College; Sandra Lynch, the first U.S. Circuit Court Chief Judge; Ralph Martin, Partner at Bingham Dana LLP; Jose Masso, Director of Communications at the Nellie Mae Foundation; Sam Tyler, President of the Boston Municipal Research Bureau; Elaine Ullian, CEO, Boston Medical Center; and Ellen Zane, CEO, Tufts Medical Center.
